Below is a list of frequently asked questions that we often get asked. If you have any questions that are not listed here, please do contact us!

Can you work from multiple photographs to produce one portrait?

Yes. You can send Portrait Artists various photographs of different people/animals or buildings, which can be painted altogether into one portrait. For example, you may want to commission one large family portrait but you may not have a photograph that has captured all of you together.  Don't worry, simply send us all the photographs of the people and/or animals that you want in your painting and we'll paint you a beautiful portrait.

Can I choose the background to the portrait?

Of course.  We value your input! If you have any ideas and suggestions on what colour background you would like, then please don't be shy, just tell us.

What size portraits do you paint?

All of our portraits are custom-made so we can paint you any size portrait that you want!  If you would just like a standard sized portrait then the standard dimensions for portraits are:

20cm x 30cm

40cm x 50cm

50cm x 60cm

60cm x 76cm

How many artists work for you?

At the time of writing this, we have 22 portrait artists working for us all specialing in different styles and subjects. For example, some of our artists just specialise in painting horses, whilst others specialise in painting children. Once we've seen the photograph(s) that you would like us to work from, the artist with the appropriate artistic background and skill set will be be commissioned to paint your portrait.

What if I don't like my portrait?

When your portrait artist has completed your painting, you will be sent a photograph of your finished portrait. If you would like to make changes to it, then your artist will be happy to do so. We want you to be thrilled with your portrait! Only then when you've approved your portrait, will you be asked to settle the remaining balance of your portrait.

What is your returns policy?

If on the rare ocassion your portrait arrives damaged then simply send it back and we'll repair it or re-do the portrait for you. If your portrait for some reason is lost by the courier, we will redo the portrait for you at our expense. Remember, you've only paid a 50% deposit for your portrait and before we send it to you, you will be sent photographs of the completed portrait for your approval. Please keep in mind once you've approved the painting no further alterations can be made.

Can you provide framing?

Unless specified, all our portraits are sent to you safely rolled for you to give to your framer to frame or stretch your painting. The reason we don't provide a framing service is because when it comes to delivering your painting couriers charge by weight and the price can go up dramatically because of this. There are so many varities of frames that we've found that it's best if you choose a frame with your framer to suit your taste. If you really really want us to frame your portrait for you we can, but trust us, it's a lot more cost effective for you to go to your own framers.

What makes a good portrait?

The clearer the photograph you've provided the artist, the better the portrait.  Photos that clearly show facial features or capture any other details that you want painted is a great help to your artist.

If I post you my photo, will you return it?

Yes. Please remember to enclose a self addressed envelope if you'd like us to post your photo back .

I have a black & white photo that I would like you to turn into a colour oil painting, can you do that?

Yes, we can! Let us know and we'll send you examples of our work that we've already done. Please note though, that there is an additional charge for this.

I would like to commission a portrait but want to post my photographs to you. What address should I post them to?
